Redirection Types Explained

  8 months ago by Admin

Taveo allows you to choose two different Redirection Types, temporary and permanent. Which one you choose can have an effect on your search engine ranking (SEO) as well as tracking accuracy. Read on to learn a bit more.

Permanent

This option instructs Taveo's server to send a HTTP 301 status code back to the end user. This has a few effects.

  • If the same user clicks on your link a second time, that click will not be tracked (301 Redirects are cached by browsers).
  • Search Engine's will consider the "Public URL" to have the same search ranking as the "Destination URL". When search engines crawl the web and find your Permanent links, they will count them as part of your regular site.
  • Bottom line, if this link will be posted publicly, you probably want to use Permanent.

Temporary

This option instructs Taveo's server to send a HTTP 303 status code back to the end user. This has a few effects.

  • If the same user clicks on your link a second time, that click will be tracked.
  • Exactly what search engines do with these is debatable.
  • If your using this link for Advertising, internal use, or care more about tracking. Use this type.
